VHC:

I was delighted to be asked to judge the breed at this show and was not disappointed with the entry and overall the quality of exhibits. Asked by the kennel club to observe and report on breed highlighted problems I did not find undue issues within the variety at the time of judging. I was happy that although a few entries were slightly over the standard none were presented underweight or in poor condition. A lot of dirty teeth which is just a lack of attention to correct presentation and should be noted by all exhibitors. Coats were all good. Several exhibits appear to be short in rib and although prominence and depth of keel was in general good some did not follow through with a good length of ribbing. Hind quarters were OK overall exhibitors should continue to strive for excellent hind quarter angulation which lends itself to the correct drive behind. Eyes were good and although some heads were either a little domed and a few a little broad and plain which should be watched in breeding programmes, I feel that it is important that the overall construction and movement are far more important and I made my judgements accordingly. Toplines were good on all my winning exhibits and this should be another point of note in breeding programmes. If anyone has exhibited under me before they should know that I like to move all exhibits a lot as I believe a huge amount more can be understood about construction of each dog on watching them on the move rather than judging purely stacked – free standing exhibits have nothing to hide. My preference - long, low and level please.

Veteran Dog/Bitch – 4 entries (1 absent)

  1. Herrington’s CH Kathington Coeur De Lion - Black /Tan dog of nice proportions, great overall balance, good shoulders, keel and ribbing nice hind angulation, moved well. An easy winner.

  2. Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Barratini Hubble Bubble at Melriding – nicely proportioned bitch with lovely outline and overall construction. Preferred the outline held by the winner on the move.

  3. Sim’s Little Wizzard of Kelmbeck

Minor Puppy Dog – 3 entries (0 absent)

  1. Mitchell’s Bronia Stefano - Lovely B/T Great all round construction great front & h/q angulation good ribbing level topline held at all times.

  2. Muggleton’s Mosiarto Mister Valentine – Less mature red lacking the angulation in both shoulder placement and hind quarters to winner.

  3. Upton’s Denval Distinction

Puppy Dog - 2 entries (0 absent)

  1. Coxon’s D’Arisca Danish Diplomat – A lovely balanced dog of good overall sound construction – lovely head, eye and neck - great hind quarters and moved powerfully and correctly with level topline at all times – one destined for the top for sure. Best Puppy & BPIS

  2. Phillip’s Stargang Devil-May-Care of Robinswood – Another very nice dog who will be a winner in the future just preferred front shoulder placement and hind angulation of winner.

Junior Dog – 3 entries (1 absent)

  1. Williams Wilmerella Wells Fargo – B/T taller type however preferred the overall balance and movement to 2nd.

  2. Shutt’s Donnadoon Waterloo Sunset – Nice shaded red, long low and level and a very different type to winner – a hard decision to split these two however preferred the winner on the move.

Yearling Dog – 3 entries (0 absent)

  1. Mitchell & Antonopoulos’s Ygeia No One Like You (Imp Swe) – Red of excellent all round construction – great depth of keel into strong and correct length of ribbing – moved easily the best on the day in this class.

  2. Phillips Stargang High Hopes of Robinswood – Nice red of good outline, hind angulation and movement. On the day preferred the better shoulder placement of winner.

  3. Fieke’s Lustrum Cushendall

Post Graduate Dog – 3 entries (0 absent)

  1. Fieke’s Lustrum Batchelor Boy – lovely extremely well balanced smaller type – great to go over on the table – great shame that following a recent weighing scales incident he was not more confident on the day – hopefully will regain his confidence and go on to great things – a well deserved winner on overall construction and type, long low and level!

  2. Phillips Arbennik St Thomas of Robinswood – Lovely dog to go over on the table with great balance on the day not the hind movement of winner.

  3. Collins Irenvy Pretty Boy with Papasalgood

Limit Dog – 7 entries (1 absent)

  1. Barrett’s Ayseebee Rumour Has It – A stand out dog of great style and ring presence. Super proportions excellent keel, ribbing and lovely well angulated hindquarters used to great effect on the move. Super neck and the best of toplines standing and moving. For me the best balanced dog on the day, very pleased to award him the CC & BOB, delighted to discover that this made him up to Champion on the day – many congratulations.

  2. Fossett & Kent’s Lokmadi A Boy Named Sue – Another lovely dog in an excellent class of exhibits – great overall type, lovely front and rear angulation and great topline – possibly his frame means that he would be better carry a little more weight but I liked him very much.

  3. Hunt’s Carpaccio Casablanca

Open Dog – 6 entries (2 absent)

  1. Daykin’s Champion Barratini Jonny Cash – Superb red dog excellent overall quality, very balanced, great shoulder placement, well angulated hind quarters moved very well lovely level topline on the move – another super mover. Delighted to award him the RCC.

  2. Coxon’s Distinctly So D’Arisca – another lovely young dog from this breeder – super size and overall construction lovely hind quarters just preferred the movement of winner on the day.

  3. Ergis’s Siouxline Aaron

Minor Puppy Bitch – 3 entries (0 absent)

  1. Ergis’ Siouxline Esther Rose – Lovely clear red lovely head and expression – good shoulder placement and great on the move. Would prefer slightly more hind angulation. Easy winner of the class.

  2. Upton’s Denval Temptation – Sound shaded red of good overall construction – not quite the quality of the winner.

  3. Beever’s Danone Chocolate Sauce

Puppy Bitch – 7 entries (1 absent)

  1. Blackburn’s Stargang Fallen Angel – Lovely red of great length and balance – excellent front construction – good depth of keel into well extended ribs. Moved well. Best Bitch Puppy.

  2. Coxon’s D’Arica Danish Delicacy – Another beautiful exhibit of slightly lighter proportions but will do well – litter sister to my Best Puppy.

  3. Muggleton’s Mosiarto Miss Match

Junior Bitch – 6 entries (0 absent)

  1. Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit – Beautiful B/T of great overall construction – nice head and eye – great front & excellent movement.

  2. Fieke’s Lustrum Dancing Queen – Another lovely exhibit from this breeder – smaller type but perfectly put together. Not as confident as winner.

  3. Protheroe’s Royalmaple Beryl The Peril

Yearling Bitch – 6 entries (0 absent)

  1. Blackburn-Bennett’s Stargang Star Anise – Star by name and my star find! Beautiful B/T girl of lovely proportions – a true standard in miniature – such fantastic movement from beautiful well angulated and strong hindquarters – super front construction and a lovely level topline standing and on the move. Still a youngster but one for top honours without a doubt. Delighted to award her the CC.

  2. Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit.

  3. Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Stargang Glimmer at Melriding

Post Graduate Bitch – 5 entries (0 absent)

  1. Muggleton’s Mosiarto Miss Calculate – Very nicely balanced red of good size. Great hindquarters, deep and prominent keel, good ribbing – moved well.

  2. Shutt’s Kissed By The Moon Da Casados Quadros of Donnadoon (Imp PRT) – Nice B/T of good overall construction but not quite the quality of winner.

  3. Taylor’s Debbiejay Magical Flo

Limit Bitch – 11 entries (3 absent)

  1. Kerry’s Kireton Cici – A really lovely B/T girl of top flight quality – beautiful outline and superb construction – lovely hindquarters and moved with style. Very pleased to award her Res CC.

  2. Coxon’s Sundsal’s Dirty Diana – another lovely exhibit from this breeder – dam of the best puppy – great outline would like a little more hindquarter angulation.

  3. Ergis & Melbourne’s Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding

Open Bitch – 5 entries (2 absent)

This class I found to be a little disappointing

  1. Andison & Peel’s Clentry Golddigga – Nicely put together red with great outline for me did not hold this on the move but was a little overweight on the day – shame.

  2. Ergis’ Champion SIouxline Aurora – Pretty red bitch – for me a little short in body and not the hindquarter angulation to give overall balance.

  3. Coxon’s D’Arisca Damsel In A Dress.
